How to Shrink and Extend Volume in Windows

Why we need to shrink and Extend Volume?

Mostly we create 3-4 partition in windows. Sometimes one of your partition is full due to lots of data. Then we don't want to store our data in another volume. In that case, if you have extra free space in another volume then you can shrink and extend your volume in which you have more space.


How to Shrink

  • Open Run then type diskmgmt.msc or Right-click on This PC and click on Manage.
  • Right-click on any volume which has extra storage
  • Click on Shrink Volume
  • Now it will ask you how much you want to shrink from this volume. Then enter the size in MB (like 20,000MB)
  • Then click on shrink.



Now How to Extend

  • Open RUN then again type diskmgmt.msc
  • Then right-click on any volume whose size you want to extend 
  • Click on Extend Volume then NEXT
  • Give size how much you want to extend  in MB (like 20,000MB)
  • Then click on NEXT and  FINISH.
